ENGLISH VERSION: Inspires: meeting on experiences of inclusion for migrants and refugees

The meeting - promoted as part of the European project of which Uisp is a partner - has been held online on Friday 28 January

The webinar "Telling and sharing good sports practices for the inclusion of refugees - Experiences from the territories and from Europe" took place on Friday 28 January, from 6.30 to 8 pm. The meeting, of a national nature, is part of the INSPIRES project (INtegration through SPort and Inclusion for Refugees in Europe for Sustainability) led by the European network FARE- Football Against Racism in Europe, and of which Uisp is a partner together with three other organizations that deal with sports for all and the inclusion of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

The project starts from the idea that the potential of sport as a tool for social inclusion and integration has been tested and recognized, while access to sports facilities for refugees is still limited. Grassroots sports organizations strive to adapt existing activities and structures and create appropriate engagement programs, promoting knowledge of the needs and expectations of refugees. For this reason Inspires aims to offer refugees, football players (coaches, referees, club administrators) and civil society organizations the necessary skills and knowledge to foster the integration and social inclusion of refugees in Europe.

The webinar aims to illustrate some experiences developed in other European countries and to share the good practices locally promoted in Italy, with a focus on the challenges posed, in particular, by the objective of the inclusion of refugee women.

The webinar has been attended by Daniela Conti, Head of Uisp Intercultural and Cooperation Policies; Patrizia Alfano, Uisp national vice president who, together with Paola Voltolina (Uisp Committee of Turin), illustrated the experience of the swimming pool for women involving migrant women, refugees and asylum seekers developped by Uisp Turin; Alberto Urbinati, president of Liberi Nantes, also attended the meeting, talking about the experience of inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers in trekking, rugby, football and other sports activities in Rome; Fabio Appetiti, responsible for institutional relations for AIC association, presented the experience of solidarity and inclusion between Italian and Afghan footballers, developped by the Italian Footballers' Association. The webinar also included the contribution of Gian Marco Duina, expert within INSPIRES project, who illustrated various experiences from other European countries, and Raffaella Chiodo Karpinsky, progect coordinator, who introduced and moderated the initiative.
